If you want to speed up Linux then here's good news.

Just install Preload and launch times will dramatically increase.

Here's more info. Enjoy!

I've just installed preload. Will post back about performances improvements if any. The version that came down the pipe through apt-get was 0.4.4 by the way.

I downloaded and installed it to Ubuntu 8,04. Checked the file in CLI and got this when I checked the file type  "ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.1, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped " Opened the Man and it seems to accelerate the GUI and the CLI in Linux by creating caches of the programs that you usually use. Ang galing no? may little cache siya nang mga fav apps. mo sa iyong eee pc? It also notes who the user is so yung mga fav apps. nang user logged in ay prini-prepare niya para pag open mo nang apps ready na agad.Tapos maliit lang na file. It speeds up opening programs quite well but I did not really notice a substantial improvement in boot time ( maybe because I'm in dual boot) but shut down time decreased too. It's a good app. thanks sa info. Grin
